What is Pulmonary Fibrosis?
Pulmonary Fibrosis (or Idiopathic
Pulmonary Fibrosis), is a condition which
results in the irreversible scarring of Lung
Tissue which eventually makes the tissue
so tough that it is no longer able to transfer
oxygen throughout the body, making its
victims short of breath (particularly on
exertion), have a dry hacking cough, tired & weak, lose their appetite, lose weight
rapidly and have discomfort in their chest.
While it is still unclear what causes
Pulmonary Fibrosis, there are many
theories ranging from genetic
predisposition to cigarette smoking,
Scleroderma, Lupus, use of certain
medications, or inhaled environmental
and/or occupational pollutants.
There is no cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis
and treatments vary and are mostly
ineffective, which is why it is so important
to continue supporting Pulmonary Fibrosis
Research which is funded, partly, by
Memorial Funds like this one.
